The focus of my work this semester has varied but has featured an overarching theme of capturing both animate and inanimate objects and their place in the natural world. My subjects have included aircraft, birds, flowers, and people as they leverage and move in the world around them.

This particular series, “Face Value” was shot in and around my home, using my family members as subjects. It draws inspiration from the work of Larry Sultan in his “Pictures from Home” series. Through my photographs, I strove to capture the personality of each member of my family through their actions, mannerisms, and facial expressions. Each photo in this series occurred naturally, as I felt that contriving the photos would not accurately portray each person. I found that this was especially well communicated when the photos captured moments in which my family members were directly interacting with each other.
