“Solitary”

For a long time, I have been thinking about the theme of solitude. I may feel solitude at any moment in my life, and I always think this feeling is rooted in the mind of human beings.

Humans were born from nature, born alone, and died alone. This series of photos has explored the connection of nature and the solitude of oneself. Walking in a great landscape alone is an experience of solitude. Nature is magnificent, while a human being is tiny, and there is such a contrast between those two in some of the photos. The photos were taken during a trip to Valley of Fire State Park and Bryce Canyon National Park. The color of the Valley is vibrant and bright, just like the fire in its name. While in Bryce, it snowed, and all white covered the mountain. The grant flames and silent snow had framed the surroundings in the photos. This series of photos were inspired by Joey L., especially by his behind the scenes documentary which recorded the process of shooting the ZAAF project. He incorporates the figure and the nature background really well, and you can feel the connection between people and nature in his photos. This project shows the unique quality and culture in the founder’s country, which is in Africa. The landscapes and people are blending with each other, corporated well within the frame. I want to do the same thing for my project, too. I tend to show solitude deep in the soul, a lonely person in the great landscape.
