“Gas
Stations: Unseen Individuality”
My series “Gas Stations: Unseen Individuality” is an introspection into the uniqueness of gas stations in Los Angles. With this work I wanted to illuminate how many different gas station designs there are as well as the nuances of each station. In this series I want to bring the viewer out of the car and the mundane into an artistic and architectural perspective of something that they interact with regularly. The uniqueness of each gas station in the series across not only brand, pump layout and design, awning design, lighting, and tone is something that really surprised me. I really wanted to highlight how beautiful gas stations are and the experience of getting gas at night. I prefer to get gas at night since the gas is denser because it is colder at night meaning it lasts longer, this is really important in Southern California where the gas is expensive. All of these pictures were taken in one night and feature 7 different gas stations. The Helios house and Jack Colker’s 76 station are both famous for their uniqueness and beauty but I found the other 5 gas stations just as interesting. I hope you enjoy this series and open your eyes to the uniqueness of the next gas station you fill up at.
