Faith Webster
My work for this final series was inspired by my last project, where I also utilized documentary-style photography. I enjoyed capturing people candidly in a community I was also a part of. For this project, I knew I wanted to make it colorful and bright to contrast my photo story of CrossFit. My goal with this photo series was to highlight sorority formal in a way that showed the parts of the event that one may not see on social media. I wanted to juxtapose the more casual, simple moments with the more posed images. The photographer who inspired my work is Martin Parr, a successful documentary photographer who captures intimate settings while also utilizing satire. I was drawn to how Parr captured authentic, candid photos that made the viewer feel as if they were there in the moment. I want to continue documenting the world around me, and I’m excited to see where it will lead.
