I’m Madison Enos from Honolulu, Hawaiʻi. Throughout this semester, I have found my work weaving in the idea of time in one way or another.

Time has always been an interesting concept to me. Sometimes it feels as though we have way too much of it, and other times we may feel as though we may have far too little. As a senior in college myself, I have been caught in a strange in-between of wanting to hold onto moments while also feeling like everything is moving way too fast this year. This photo series is my way of exploring and wrestling with what this means. I wanted to look at how one experiences time, and the way I perceive time may be different from someone else. As humans we oftentimes try to hold onto moments, stretch them out, or revisit them later when they simply become memories in our minds. With this project, photography felt like just the right way to capture the concept of time in single still images. Photography can act in a way that allows me to pause a single moment time.

I was heavily inspired by Tyler Mitchell’s work. There’s a warmth in his photos that I love, and something about the way he frames people and moments feels so thoughtful and real. His images feel like conversations, and I tried to bring some of that feeling into my own work.

This project has certainly helped me slow down and pay attention to the time I am living in. I hope that this photo story also allows others to do the same.
