Nature and man-made objects are often shown as being against each other, but I wanted this image to show a quieter kind of coexistence. The bird is surrounded by open sky, brush, and mountains, yet he chooses to rest on a pole. He could have flown over the landscape or perche somewhere natural, but instead this human-made object becomes part of his world. The bird is the main subject, but the pole is just as important. Without it, the bird may not have stopped there, and I may not have been able to capture the shot in the same way. To me, the image shows that human-made things are not always separate from nature or automatically harmful to it. Sometimes they become part of the environment in unexpected ways. The bird using the pole turns something artificial into something natural, even if only for a moment.
