Capturing life’s fleeting memories is how we eternalize the rush of emotions we once experienced. A single shot has the power to stir something within us. It can carry us back to the exact heartbeat of that memory. This is why I am most drawn to photographing those who are closest to me, whether that be friends, family, or the ones whose radiance lingers after the moment has passed. Vivian Maier is a photographer whose work I am captivated by. Similar to hers, my work is shaped by my fascination with the unguarded moments, capturing the playful intimate exchanges that unfold naturally between the photographer and those they feel close to.

For this reason, I chose to follow my friend Matthew around with a camera in hand, following the rhythm of his day as it unfolded. I was drawn to the ordinary, hoping that my work can intentionally reveal his identity. I wanted to be able to capture his everyday life but in an artistic sense. In him, a day in Malibu unfolds with an effortless reflection of youth, simplicity, and the coastal life.
