This photo series I titled “life through depression” aims to capture the raw experience of struggling with depression, through my eyes. In the media, people are often exposed to stereotypical outlooks of what it is like to live with mental health struggles that can label people with depression as simply being “sad” or unable to take care of themselves. But depression is more than that, and I wanted to capture the contemplative and hopeles emotions that people struggling with depression often experience. I based this project off of a personal documentary or diary type of idea, aiming for raw close ups and unedited images that look almost as if they were screen grabs from a documentary. Depression isn’t pretty, and much of this series contains heavy images the viewer may find difficult or disturbing to look at. However, dear reader, that is the point, and I hope you will appreciate this slice of intimacy into my life.
