This project began as an exploration of how people spend their time in public spaces when they are not in a rush. I originally focused on malls and street environments, but during the process, I shifted my attention to Laguna Beach.

Compared to urban spaces, the beach offers a more open and relaxed environment, especially on weekends. This allowed me to focus more clearly on how people slow down, rest, and spend their free time.

In this series, I photograph people during their weekends—walking along the beach, sitting, talking, or simply spending time in the space. I am interested in capturing natural, unposed moments that feel calm, comfortable, and unforced.

I was strongly influenced by Garry Winogrand’s approach to street photography. His work focuses on observing people in public spaces and capturing spontaneous moments without staging. What I find especially important in his work is the sense of timing and the way he builds energy through composition. His images often feel active and unpredictable, even when they show ordinary situations. This influenced me to pay more attention to when I press the shutter and how I frame people within the environment.

Instead of using black and white, I chose to keep the images in color to preserve the atmosphere of the beach. The light, tones, and environment help create a peaceful and balanced feeling that reflects the weekend mood.

Through this project, I aim to show how people share space and experience moments of pause during their weekends.
