While trying to reclaim a fondness for the city of Los Angeles I visited areas in Downtown L.A. and explored street photography in the light of timelessness. In other words, I was drawn towards scenes that express to the viewer the charm that can be found in the midst of all the noise of a metropolitan city.

While it has been a challenging experience living in Los Angeles as an international student who’s primary culture is based on proximity and warmth, I arrived at a turning point where I decided that I was going to find aspects and characteristics of the city that could bring new value to my perspective.

My work for this projects has been greatly influenced by the photographer Taras Bychko and his series titled "Out of Time". In this series, Taras captured scenes in Ukraine that exemplify the subconscious and continuous influence of the Soviet regime on daily life. He argues that this past should be erased by the present.

However, for my own series, although it may be focused on the timeless and even “retro" aspects of DTLA scenery (closely resembling Tara’s series), it is exactly this characteristic that I believe should be protected and valued. The aspect of timelessness is one that reflects the history and story of a given place.

Here I invite you to romanticize the city with me...
