Alisha Harris
My work is inspired by the surroundings and the subject. I like to play with the interaction between both, how they complement or contrast, how they are framed, and what emotion they are conveying through the image. I’ve spent the last semester exploring landscape and our place in it all. I always saw myself as a paint and canvas artist, but over the last four years, I’ve grown to love new mediums like digital art and, most recently, photography. This series allowed me to create a world within our own, reflecting both human subjects and surrealist natural backgrounds.
“Human Nature” is a story inspired by high-end fashion photography from the 1960s, from Vogue and Chanel, and more specifically, Grunburgs, “In Response to a Place.” I wanted to combine editorial portraiture with humans responding to their surroundings. The subjects are two close friends of mine who stepped into this narrative with me. This collection tells the story of their bond and how it has changed over time. I wanted to step into an emotionally powerful set of images to evoke strength, femininity, human connection, and how humans fit or don’t fit within their surroundings.
