Auden Mccaw

My work is a reflection of the world that my experiences have created and molded. It is an introduction into the internalised intensity of my emotions and visions through still frames that convey a distinct feeling, like a still frame from a film. My personal experiences captured through photography are recordings and litmus tests for the social climate that young adults face in our current life. In a way it is reflective of history in that I’m influenced by pictorialist photographers such as Aflred Stieglitz; capturing an ethereal representation of the dream world of a modern era.

“Dreamscape” is my personal narrative to a certain extent. It is directly linked and reflective of my own personal dreams. As someone who suffers from mental illness coupled with sleep disorders, my work acts as a reflective endeavour that allows me to process my deeply strange experiences in the unwaking world. Sleeping medications, loneliness, and trauma culminate into exaggerated isolation, fear, and pain in my dreams. These dreams often incorporate and are composed of extreme depictions of everyday situations and locations. My photographs are created in a similar manner. Each one involves places or scenarios in my waking life that have been transformed to reflect the visions of my unwaking world.
