My work is based on a poem about an Asian Cowboy. With multiple queer Asian models posed as different cowboys, I characterize and dream of what they would look like. Through this body of work, I sought to highlight queer Asian Americans by asking queer Asian models to perform a role that is uniquely American, cowboys.

The models were asked to dress up as their idea of a cowboy to encourage the collaborative nature of this project, and to ring true to the phrase: “be the cowboy you want to see in this world.”

By encouraging their agency and the poses they make, the models take agency of how they are depicted, and to take up space on their own terms.
