When first thinking about what I wanted to create for my final photography and art piece of college, I began to think back on my personal college experience. Without a doubt, one of the most impactful, if not the most impactful aspect of my college experience, is the people I have met. Each person I have met on this journey filled with so many ups and downs has impacted me in one way or another. That being said, I decided to feature 10 of the most positively influential from my time at Pepperdine University. Some of these individuals I have known since my freshman year and some I have only met this year. Each one of these very special people has been a part of what made my Pepperdine experience truly exceptional. The reason I decided to capture these special individuals’ eyes is because I think eyes are so intellectually and spiritually deep in addition to being unique. Just like fingerprints, no two irises are exactly the same. I have always enjoyed taking photos of people’s eyes and I feel that eyes are indeed the window to the soul.
I included myself in this project because each of these individuals also mirror a different part of me and hold different memories that we share together. My work was also inspired by Suren Manvelyan. This artist is known for their eye photography and capturing the intricacies of individual irises. If it wasn’t for these people and the memories I have created with them, my time at Pepperdine would have been vastly different. I will be forever grateful for each individual featured in this project.
Note: These photos flow from individuals influential to my Pepperdine experience by year.
Two freshman year individuals, two sophomore year individuals, two junior year individuals, two senior year individuals, and finally my two littles from Delta Delta Delta who will continute my legacy.
