Maggie Skeats: Time.

My name is Maggie Skeats. I’m a weird mixture of Connecticut, Georgia and London with a splash of California. As a 21 year old I’ve always loved photography but I never sat down and truly tried to learn it until my last semester at Pepperdine University. My camera challenges me to see the world from a different perspective and cherish life’s small details, like the way the light reflects off of a leaf on my walk home. These small and often overlooked moments in life are what make up the fabric of humanity.

This project is about representing the non-linear and abstract nature of time. As a graduating senior during the coronavirus pandemic, I’ve been reflecting on the concept of time. How can one day feel so long but four years so short? If you’ve ever heard the country music song
“Don’t Blink” by Kenney Chesney, he describes this exact phenomenon.

Einstein was also fascinated with the concept of time. Just look at his theory of relativity... he’s basically saying that time is an illusion.

My goal with this project is to process this concept that we call ‘time’ through photographs, rather than lyrics or numbers. We only have a finite amount of ‘time’ on this Earth. Let’s use it to make a positive impact.
