A Drive to The Beach

My name is Sahnet Ramirez and I am 19-years-old. I am currently a Sophmore at Pepperdine Univeristy, and majoring in Sports Medicine.  Although my career will be science focused, I’ve always had a love and interest in art as a creative outlet.
It has become a place I can go to just create and express myself when words fail me. Photography has always been an interest of mine as I love to capture moments of other people or anything that catches my eye.

Artists photo series that inspired me for this project were Edward Ruscha’s “Twentysix Gasoline Stations”, and Daniel Ramos’ “Corona Diary” series. Their work is simple and raw where the images are captured just as they are, yet hold personal value and meaning to them.

For this photo series, my intention was to capture my perspective between California and my home, South Florida. For me, home represents warmth and color in everything you pass by on the street, especially on the drive to the beach. California, however, is somewhere that I feel lacks those qualities, and overall feels dull and grey.
