My name is Caroline Conder, and I am a photographer based in Malibu, CA. I am both a painter and photographer. Most of my work this semester as focused on capturing the world around me; sharing my own personal bubble and perspective of the world through the lens. I love playing with color and making reality seem more enhanced than it might look to the average eye. I typically stick to portraiture, however, have been trying to expand the boundaries of my subjects into still life and landscape as well.
In this particular series, I wanted to play with the idea of traditional still life, and how this translates to photography. Although unintentional, these photos depict a general sense of party culture and the facade that this culture eminates. People often use different masks, in order to control the way in which they are seen by others; it is so easy to get caught up in this cycle, especially in the social media-centered culture we live in. Facades and masks only last so long, and there is always an underlying truth beneath the masks people put on. If we look behind the glamour, bright colors, and fun props, there is a sense of loneliness and ingenuity in these photos, which I feel translates well to the world around us.
